She had a rare ability to combine softness with boldness, kindness with confidence, without either side taking away from the other. She was unapologetically herself, and I wanted to capture that balance on canvas. I wanted to paint women as they see themselves, not as they imagine someone else sees them. There is a tension between softness and strength throughout the painting, creating something that feels both vulnerable and unapologetic at the same time. Painted on raw fabric with visible marks and unfinished edges, the piece embraces fragility, messiness and honesty.
